The AB 172 Fulfillment Project
Final Numbers are in: Demand Exceeds Supply!
In December 2006 and January of this year, Karen Hill-Scott & Company (KHS) worked to promote AB 172 funding applications and facilitate communication between applicants and the California Department of Education (CDE), to result in a high demand for AB 172 preschool funding. As of February 9, 2007, CDE has released preliminary aggregate numbers on the composition of applications.
The Final Numbers show that:
- 193 applications were received from 43 counties
- The applications were for $79.8 million in funding, almost $25 million more than the funds available
- Applicants from San Mateo County were among the most ambitious, with organizations applying for 4 times the amount of funds than the county was allocated.

- CPRE--Center Based State Preschool Program, half day
- CCTR--Center-Based Child General Care
- CPKP--Pre-Kindergarten Part-day (AB 172)
- CPKF--Pre-Kindergarten Full-day (AB 172)
- CPKH--Pre-Kindergarten Hybrid (AB 172, CPKP + CCTR)
- CPKS--Pre-Kindergarten Support (AB 172, $2500)
